Thunes and Coinbase announced a strategic alliance on October 19 to connect their fiat and digital-asset infrastructure for cross-border payments and remittances.

Coinbase will provide stablecoin solutions to enable Thunes’ payment infrastructure, while Thunes will integrate its global direct network into Coinbase’s platform. The companies said that connection is intended to give access to local clearing systems and real-time last-mile delivery into bank accounts and mobile wallets.

The proposed combination targets corporate payments, gig-worker compensation and remittances, where a digital asset can move between infrastructure providers while the recipient still receives local currency through a bank or wallet. Corridor coverage, conversion, compliance checks and settlement timing will determine how useful that model is in practice.

The announcement did not disclose financial terms, a specific launch timetable or a universal list of countries and currencies. It describes a strategic infrastructure alliance rather than a guarantee that every Coinbase customer immediately receives Thunes coverage.
