Kapital announced October 19 that it had reached an agreement to acquire Woz, a San Francisco-based AI startup backed by Y Combinator, in a cash-and-stock transaction valued at $30 million.

The transaction is intended to add Woz’s AI technology and team to Kapital’s AI-native banking platform. Woz co-founders Ben Collins and Brad Eckert are expected to join Kapital as Head of AI and Chief Technology Officer, respectively, according to the announcement.

For a banking platform, acquiring an AI team can accelerate product development, but it also creates integration and governance work. Financial institutions need to control how models use customer data, document automated decisions and provide human escalation when an AI workflow is uncertain or wrong.

The announced value is the transaction consideration reported by Kapital, not a forecast of revenue or savings from the combined platform. Closing conditions and the timetable for integrating Woz’s technology were not detailed in the announcement.
