AI-native insurer Ledgebrook raises $200 million Series D co-led by Allianz X and Rockefeller Capital Management
The specialty insurer will use the primary equity round to scale its proprietary underwriting platform, Blackbird, alongside a separate multi-year reinsurance agreement with Allianz Re.

Ledgebrook, an AI-native specialty insurer focused on the excess-and-surplus lines market, said Tuesday it has raised $200 million in a Series D primary equity round co-led by Allianz X, the venture capital arm of Allianz, and Rockefeller Capital Management.
The company said the capital will go toward scaling its technology and extending the reach of Blackbird, its proprietary AI underwriting platform, which Ledgebrook uses to price and bind specialty commercial risk that falls outside standard admitted-market coverage.
Separately from the equity raise, Allianz Re — the reinsurance arm of Allianz — agreed to a multi-year reinsurance agreement with Ledgebrook. The company described the reinsurance deal as a distinct arrangement from the funding round rather than a condition of it, though the two agreements were announced together.
The excess-and-surplus market, where Ledgebrook operates, covers risks that standard insurers decline to write because they are unusual, high-hazard, or difficult to price with conventional actuarial tables. That segment has drawn growing investment from technology-focused insurers betting that better data and automated underwriting can price this harder-to-model risk more accurately than legacy carriers.
Ledgebrook did not disclose a post-money valuation alongside the funding announcement, and the company did not provide a specific timeline for how the new capital or the Blackbird platform expansion will translate into premium growth.
