Singapore payee-verification startup IPID raises $16 million Series A with Citi and HSBC as strategic backers
The Foundation Capital-led round brings two major transaction banks into a company selling "know your payee" checks meant to catch misdirected and fraudulent payments before they settle.

IPID, a Singapore-based payee verification company, has raised a $16 million Series A led by Foundation Capital, with strategic participation from Citi and HSBC alongside existing investors QED Investors, Monk's Hill Ventures and Quona Capital.
The company sells account and payee verification — sometimes described in the industry as "know your payee" checks — that are meant to flag mismatched names, suspicious account details or other red flags on a payment before it is sent, rather than after funds have already settled with the wrong recipient. Misdirected and authorized-push-payment fraud has been a persistent problem for banks because reversing a payment after settlement is difficult and often unsuccessful.
The participation of two global transaction banks as strategic investors, rather than purely financial backers, is the more telling detail in the round: Citi and HSBC both operate large cross-border payment businesses where payee-verification failures carry direct liability and reputational exposure, and their involvement suggests at least a pilot-stage commercial relationship rather than a passive bet.
IPID did not disclose a valuation for the round or specify which markets its verification coverage currently extends to beyond its Singapore base. The company said the funding will go toward expanding its payee-verification and payment intelligence services.
